Houston Airports cautions travelers with regard to upcoming temporary lane closures

Delivering the IAH Terminal Redevelopment Program, ITRP, is a complex challenge, and the current construction phase requires careful planning and constant communication with the public. Houston Airports has reached another important juncture in the program that needs to be communicated to the traveling public visiting George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

Temporary lane closures are planned to take place Monday, Oct. 10, and we're asking passengers to continue to prepare and carefully plan their trips to and from Bush Airport. 

The lane closures will be in place for approximately four weeks and facilitate necessary utility improvements by CenterPoint Energy in support of the ongoing construction of the new Mickey Leland International Terminal, MLIT, facility.   

CenterPoint is relocating and installing crucial electrical infrastructure in support of the new international terminal. This work is complex and requires significant underground coordination and navigation to avoid utilities and obstructions.  

The temporary lane closures may impact traffic congestion during afternoon peak travel times. Every effort has been taken to schedule the work at the least impactful time in order to minimize the impact on the traveling public. We ask passengers and their families to follow these important recommendations to help ease traffic delays, reduce roadway congestion and enhance their airport experience.

Passenger experience is our priority. Houston Airports utilized successful traffic simulations, extensive roadway sensitivity modeling and real-time testing days prior to the execution of the work.

Active traffic monitoring and curbside management will continue and there will also be additional police deployment as a part of the CenterPoint traffic control plan.  

The ongoing construction at Bush Airport allows for the development of a new world-class international terminal. The airport continues to make significant adjustments in order to minimize and mitigate the inevitable traffic impacts as much as possible.
