Roadway modifications designed to complement construction of the new international terminal and four-level parking garage at William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) are underway. Construction has begun on the terminal loop road and overpass.
Starting Sept. 4, work to narrow the lanes on the loop road leading to the terminal overpass will begin. Most of the work will be done overnight to lessen the impact on passengers and visitors.
The lanes will narrow to approximately 10 feet wide, and that change is scheduled to be completed by Friday, Sept. 5, weather permitting. The Airport will display signage to alert drivers to the change.
Once that phase is completed, work on the upper ramp lanes is scheduled to begin Monday, Sept. 8. This will require one lane to be closed initially, with most of the work done overnight, after the last scheduled departure. Work on the upper ramp lanes is scheduled to be completed by Wednesday, Sept. 10, weather permitting.
Airport officials suggest passengers and visitors follow these tips to avoid any inconvenience to their travel experience:
- Drivers picking up arriving passengers should use the Cell Phone Waiting Lot, as opposed to circling the airport’s loop road. The lot can be found off Airport Boulevard, west of the main entry.
- Check with your chosen airline for specific information but in general terms, arrive two hours prior to scheduled departure time. This is especially important from 5 to 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 to 7:30 p.m.
- Customers may want to consider the ecopark 2 parking lot, which is located off Airport Boulevard, east of the main entry. This area is unaffected by construction and lane closures.
- Please pay close attention to the directional signage, particularly in area approaching the upper level ramp.
