Houston Airports Hosts Canine Companions for Independence
Houston Airports hosted the newly formed Gulf Coast Chapter of Canine Companions for Independence (CCI) for their quarterly meeting and abbreviated familiarization tour of IAH. Founded in 1975, CCI is a non-profit organization that enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing highly trained assistance dogs and ongoing support to ensure quality partnerships.
Access to facilities like airports is hard to come by for trainers of assistance animals. Houston Airports are the only airports in the nation offering facilities for these training opportunities. Since implementation of this program, Tim Joniec has received a request from the CCI Executive Director in Irving, TX, for contact at other airports so they may consider familiarization tours. Through this relationship, Dallas Love Field will begin a program later in 2019.
