The cashless parking system aims to make the parking experience at Houston Airports garages and ecoPark lots quicker, safer and more environmentally friendly for customers.
Houston Airports is transitioning to a cashless payment system across all parking facilities, offering a faster, more convenient, and secure parking experience for travelers and visitors.
“At Houston Airports, our mission is to connect people, cultures, and economies of the world to Houston. We do that through our strategic priorities of making our passengers happy while building platforms for future success, said Kelly Woodward, Chief Operating Officer for Houston Airports. “Implementing a cashless parking system aligns perfectly with our mission by providing a more efficient, secure, and convenient travel experience for our passengers.”
The new system utilizes License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology, allowing seamless entry and exit without stopping for cash payment. Additionally, near-Field Communication (NFC) capabilities enable contactless payment through digital wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay, further streamlining the payment process.
The cashless parking system rollout will be implemented in phases across various parking facilities at both George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and William P. Hobby Airport (HOU). The initial phase will see 7 customer lanes at ecoPark 2 at Bush Airport accepting cashless payments by June , followed by 25 lanes at the Hobby Airport Garages by September. The project will continue throughout 2024 and 2025, with all parking facilities transitioned to cashless payment by the end of May 2025.
"We understand the importance of minimizing disruptions during peak travel times," said Walt Gray, Director of Parking and Ground Transportation for Houston Airports. "That's why we've implemented a phased rollout of the cashless parking system, ensuring a smooth transition for our passengers without impacting their travel experience."
