Travelers passing through William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) can soon anticipate a novel culinary experience with the arrival of Throughgood Bistro & Bar later this year. Soon to be nestled within the bustling concourses of the first and only 5-Star Skytrax airport in North America, this innovative concept promises to redefine airport dining while making a tangible impact on local social issues, particularly homelessness in Houston.

Pastor Ruddy Rasmus of St. John’s Church in Downtown Houston, owner of Throughgood Coffee, is collaborating with Areas HOU - one of two new concessionaires at Hobby Airport – to give back to the local community one cup of coffee at a time.

Scheduled to open in the Hobby Airport Ticketing Lobby -- pre-TSA security -- in late 2024, Throughgood Bistro & Bar is one of 20 new concepts offered by concessionaires Areas and LaTrelle’s Management that will open inside Hobby Airport between 2023 and 2025.

“This next decade will invite travelers to reconsider what airport dining can be while allowing Houston Airports to hold firm to the truth that together “Houston-friendly” hospitality, incredible food and satisfying drinks make air travel so much better,” said Francisco Cuellar, Chief Commercial Development Officer for Houston Airports.

The new lineup of restaurants, coffee shops and bars reflects the ambitious goal of Houston Airports to offer brands that meet the guiding principles of its concessions vision for Hobby Airport:

  • Achieve exceptional customer service and offer a five-star experience
  • Offer greater variety and quality for passengers
  • Increase opportunities for local operators
  • Encourage innovative, unique and exciting concepts
  • Showcase Houston as a premier, world-class destination
  • Create a sense of place within the airport

“Travelers can anticipate a diverse menu tailored to suit varied preferences, ranging from grab-and-go options to sit-down dining experiences,” said Libby Hurley, Assistant Director of Concessions for Houston Airports. “Moreover, the bistro will showcase selections from local breweries, distilleries and wineries, paying homage to the vibrant culture of Houston while supporting Houstonians who need a hand up.”

Proceeds from every purchase at the café will contribute to the Bread of Life Foundation which is working to eradicate homelessness in Houston.

“This is an awesome collab and even more awesome that it is located pre-security so that we can have a sendoff coffee or quick meal with family or visitors, even if they are not flying with us that day,” commented Lenore Mayberry on a social media post announcing the collaboration between Areas HOU and Throughgood Bistro and Bar.

Founded in 1992 by Pastors Rudy and Juanita Rasmus, the foundation began by serving hot meals to Houston's homeless, quickly expanding to offer a broad range of services and support. In partnership with Beyonce's BeyGOOD and Tina Knowles-Lawson, they've conducted anti-hunger initiatives and disaster relief efforts. Nearly three decades later, Bread of Life continues to aid underserved communities in Houston through programs in homelessness, health and hunger relief. With over three decades of service, the Bread of Life Foundation has been instrumental in providing essential resources and sustainable solutions to combat homelessness throughout the city.

“Now I have a reason to be even earlier to Hobby Airport for my flights,” commented Derrick Walter on a social media post announcing Throughgood Bistro and Bar coming soon to Hobby Airport.
