Installation of Advanced Parking Guidance System Underway at George Bush Intercontinental Airport
June 18, 2018

Your pulse is racing, time is running out, and here you are again, driving up and down the aisles looking for that open parking spot as the clock ticks and your flight’s departure time draws nearer! Great – it looks like there’s a spot right beyond that black SUV. Oops, no - there’s a motorcycle, previously hidden from view!

Anxiety rises as you move to another level and go up and down another aisle – still nothing! Surely, there must be a better way to find a parking spot!

Well, yes – there is.

Advanced parking guidance systems are becoming more popular and more essential in enhancing the customer-friendly features of any airport. Why not begin the customer experience by guiding them effortlessly to the most convenient and available parking space in the shortest amount of time?

The Houston Airport System is again leading the way in embracing the advanced parking guidance system, a system designed to eliminate the stress-raising scenario described above.

The advanced parking guidance system accurately accounts for available parking spaces and guides motorists through real-time smart display signage within a parking garage to those available spaces. The proposed system allows for space counting to increase occupancy and utilization of the parking garages in addition to improving the customer’s experience with the ease of finding available parking.

The current project at George Bush Intercontinental Airport involves the hybrid installation of approximately 1,100 Ultra Sonic Sensors and 700 Upsolute Camera Sensors that will be installed on most levels of all the Airport’s garages.

Houston City Council approved the guaranteed maximum price and appropriated the remaining required funds for this project on May 9, 2018.
