Houston Airports Director Mario Diaz signs cooperative agreement with Sanjeev Datadin, Chairman of Cheddi Jagan International Airport.

On May 2, Mario Diaz, Houston Airports Director, signed a historic Cooperation Agreement with Sanjeev Datadin, Chairman of Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Georgetown, Guyana. The agreement between the Houston Airport System and the Cooperative Republic of Guyana acknowledged the enormous value of the global connectivity the world’s airports foster as connectors for business, culture and economic development.

With the agreement only becoming effective upon approval and acceptance of their respective organizations, the leaders committed:

  • to exchange professional experiences relating to the development, operation, economic development issues and industry advancements of airports

  • to share insights and information as it relates to meeting the many challenges of preparing world airports for future growth

  • to promote the expansion of safe, modern and efficient airports

  • to encourage exchanges among our organizations by designating official channels for the support of inquiries and visiting delegations to our respective facilities and promoting these exchanges through appropriate media outlets

  • to work toward the establishment of scheduled airline service between our two cities

The Houston-Guyana relationship continues to advance. In March 2022, George Bush Intercontinental Airport teamed up with a new air carrier, Caribbean Airlines, to launch nonstop flights to Georgetown, the capital of Guyana.

This agreement sets the table to further strengthen Houston-Guyana ties.
