Capital Development

The primary responsibility of the Managing Airport Planner is to oversee airport planning activities that address airport development, infrastructure and land use needs. This includes managing planning studies that analyze and assess needs for current and future airport facilities at all three Houston airports. The Planner also makes recommendations to senior management regarding future airfield, terminal roadway and parking facilities, as well as meeting with management, stakeholders and/or end users to ensure that all project needs and expectations are addressed. In addition, the Planner manages the development of master plans that identify needs, propose feasible solutions, and help prioritize capital projects to ensure the region's airport facilities will meet current and future passenger and cargo demands.

"We have to be able to visualize the big picture when it comes to airport planning that captures the needs and expectations of our passengers and clients. Analysis is a big part of our job, as is presenting plans and gaining consensus from management, stakeholders and end users."

Responsible for sustainable airfield pavement design, construction and management during the asset's 3-5 year lifecycle. Tasks include identifying, evaluating, managing and rehabilitating all airfield pavement assets and systems, as well as coordinating with the Tower, FAA, Airport Operations, airlines and airport management to minimize operational impact during construction. Provides overall planning, design, coordination and project management for construction projects, including cost management, quality management, contract administration, and safety and security management.

"My job is to deliver a quality product on time and within budget. Although our airfield pavements are composed of three-foot concrete sections, my expertise is understanding the minute details of each square inch of pavement. I enjoy the 'cradle to grave' aspect of my job."
