Jul 23, 2025
HOUSTON—On Tuesday, July 22, Volaris, the Mexican ultra-low-cost airline operating in Mexico, the United States, Central and South America, celebrated the launch of two new international routes connecting Houston, Texas, with the Mexican cities of Morelia, Michoacán, and San Luis Potosi. These new routes reinforce the airline’s commitment to expanding air connectivity between the U.S. and Mexico, promoting social, economic and tourism exchange between both countries.

Houston Airports and Volaris celebrated the inagural flight from Houston to San Luis Potosi with a performance by a Mariachi group and a ribbon-cutting.

Houston's airports are primary gateways to Latin America and the South-Central Region of the U.S. Houston, a key city due to its economic dynamism and large Latino population, represents a strategic point for Volaris. The new routes from George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) expand travel options for those looking to reconnect with their roots in Mexico, as well as for U.S. travelers interested in discovering the cultural and economic richness of the country's central region.

Morelia, recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage Site, stands out for its colonial architecture, history, and cuisine—declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. San Luis Potosi is a major industrial and manufacturing hub in Mexico, while also offering cultural, natural, and architectural attractions for all types of travelers.
Since launching operations at IAH in 2015, Volaris has flown over 1.4 million passengers to and from Houston, connecting customers to destinations such as Guadalajara, Mexico City and El Salvador in Central America. With the addition of Morelia and San Luis Potosi, the airline now operates five routes from Houston.
Tickets for both routes are now available at www.volaris.com and through the Volaris App.
