Hobby Airport in 2027: Bigger. Brighter. Better.
Jul 7, 2025

Starting July 8, 2025, Houston Airports is making big improvements at William P. Hobby Airport (HOU). While we build a new, weather-protected walkway for your comfort, you may notice some changes at the departures curb.

We’re keeping at least one curbside lane open at all times and conducting regular safety checks to protect you and your loved ones. Please allow extra time for drop-off and pickup Sunday–Friday, from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.
Your safety remains our top priority. That’s why you’ll see extra Houston Police officers, clear signage, and dedicated staff ready to help you every step of the way.
Thank you for being part of our Hobby family. Together, we’re creating a travel experience you can count on—today and for years to come.
Our team is here for you—ready to answer questions, guide you and keep you safe every step of the way.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: When is construction happening? A: Construction begins July 8, 2025, and continues through September 30, 2025. Overnight work occurs Sunday through Friday from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.
Q: Will the curb be open during construction? A: Yes. One lane at the Departures curb will remain open 24/7, even during construction hours. Staff and HPD officers will be present to keep traffic flowing and assist guests.
Q: Where should I drop off or pick up someone during construction? A: Departures remain open with limited access. We recommend arriving early and following signs or staff directions. If you're picking someone up, consider using the Arrivals level or waiting in the Red Garage.
Q: I'm using Uber, Lyft, a hotel shuttle, or limo. What should I know? A: Commercial drop-offs are prohibited on the Departures level between 7:45 p.m. and 4 a.m., Sunday–Friday. All rideshare, shuttle, and limo services must drop off passengers on the Arrivals level in the following zones:
- Zone 1: Rental Car Shuttles
- Zone 3: Hotel, Parking, Courtesy Shuttles
- Zone 4: Limousines
- Zone 5: All Rideshare
Q: What if I need accessibility assistance? A: Passengers with limited mobility can continue to use the Departures curb. Accessible areas are clearly marked and monitored by staff. If you need extra time, let a curbside agent know or coordinate with your airline in advance.
Q: Is Red Garage parking still available? A: Yes! Red Garage parking remains open and is connected to the terminal. When the new canopy opens in June 2026, it will provide a weather-protected walkway from garage to lobby.
Q: What safety measures are in place? A: Safety is our top priority. We’ve added extra HPD officers, posted clear signage and instructed all drivers to follow a slow-speed zone through the curbside. Construction zones are secured and pedestrian walkways are clearly marked.
- Use marked walkways and don’t enter construction zones.
- Drive slowly—only one lane is open at the curb.
- Listen to our staff and officers—they’re here to help.
- If you see something unsafe, please tell us right away.
Q: How can I stay updated? A: Visit Fly2Houston.com for real-time updates or follow Houston Airports on social media. Signage and staff at the airport will help you navigate changes as they happen.
Q: What is the canopy project part of? A: The canopy is part of the larger West Concourse Expansion, a $470 million project that will add seven new gates, updated baggage systems, expanded concessions, and more. It’s all part of our Bigger. Brighter. Better. commitment to the future of Hobby Airport.
Q: Why should I be excited? A: Because you deserve more comfort and connection. This canopy means less exposure to rain, sun, and heat—and a more seamless experience from curb to gate.
We appreciate your patience and your support. Let’s build something great together.
