Cell Phone Lots at IAH make life easier, and cheaper, for passengers

Already home to some of the lowest parking rates in the industry, the Houston Airport System's George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) now offers free parking - at its two Cell Phone Lots.

The Cell Phone Lots, both located off of Will Clayton Parkway, allow individuals who are on their way to the airport terminals to pick-up a passenger, to park for free and wait for arriving passengers to give them a call on their cellular phones once they've obtained their baggage and are ready to go.

This cuts down on unnecessary circling of the airport when a flight is delayed, since curbside parking is not allowed; cuts down on congestion and traffic pollution, by reducing the number of cars on the road at any given time at IAH; and saves the airport's clients money by allowing them to park for free without using up their gas.

“It is very convenient to stay here and wait until I get a phone call from my wife saying she's ready,” said Jeffrey Smith, between sipping a cup of coffee and reading his newspaper at one of IAH's Cell Phone Lots. "I'm catching up on my reading and I don't have to stress about circling the airport."

Bright yellow signs along the airport's roadways direct traffic on how to get to the Cell Phone Lots. Users of the Cell Phone Lots can sit inside their vehicle, stretch their legs in the ample parking lot space or just relax under airport security supervision.

So next time you're on your way to the airport to pick somebody up from Bush Intercontinental Airport know that there is an official place for you to park. It is called Cell Phone Lot, it is free, easy to reach, safe and open every day – and very convenient.

"Safety and customer satisfaction are always the priority at IAH, and these Cell Phone Lots provide our clients with both," said Robert White, airport manager of IAH. "The response from our traveling public has been incredible - they love this concept."

You don’t have to pay to wait with your car anymore.
